Reflecting & Rejoicing Celebrating 60 Years of Impact »

Mayor Libby Schaaf & Congresswoman Barbara Lee, in partnership with United Way Bay Area, Citi Community Development, and The Unity Council, kick off the 2018 free tax preparation season.

For the 16th year, low- to moderate-income residents of the Bay Area can have their taxes prepared for free through United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. More than 200 VITA centers in eight counties help families access the California Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which leverages the federal EITC in the communities that need it the most.

With the support of trained, IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers, VITA centers provide free tax preparation to individuals and families earning less than $54,000 per year at more than 200 locations throughout the eight Bay Area counties—Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Solano.

Do you live in Oakland? The Unity Council’s Community Resource Center located at 1900 Fruitvale Avenue runs one of the largest free tax preparation sites in Oakland. Visit The Unity Council’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) webpage for more information.
