Alex Mora has dedicated his career to improving the education and career opportunities for underserved youth and young adults in the Bay Area. Alex’s personal mission is to reduce the economic disparities and break the poverty cycle among the Latino community.
Alex’s exposure to inequality and underserved communities inspired him to innovate and expand the resources available for youth and young adults from an early age. As a high school student, he was part of Youth Together, a group that offered assistance to other students on how to apply to college and financial aid, services that were not available at his school.
Over the last eight years, Alex has designed, implemented and evaluated workforce strategies and activities for youth and young adults to explore career and education options. He has a wealth of experience planning and executing professional development training and service events that expand professional and social skills for large and diverse audiences and working with at-risk youth. Alex has served as a Lead Student Organizer for Youth Together, California Representative for the Unidos US’ Lideres Youth Advisory Board, and Program Coordinator for the AmeriCorps, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and Youth Employment Services at The Unity Council.
For the past two years, his direction of the STEP program at The Unity Council, an out-of-school youth employment and career exploration program, has resulted in 75% employment or education attainment by program participants and 90% of internship participants attaining employment.
Alex is an Oakland native and the proud son of Mexican immigrants. He attended Oakland Public Schools and graduated with Bachelors in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara. Alex started his career at The Unity Council as an AmeriCorps Member and has worked at The Unity Council for a total of 5 years.
