At The Unity Council, we believe lasting change begins with community. For more than 60 years, we have partnered with Oakland residents and families to expand access to affordable housing, workforce development, early childhood education, community safety, economic opportunity, and culturally rooted services.

Each year, we empower approximately 11,000 individuals—primarily from low- to moderate-income backgrounds—by providing the tools, resources, and support needed to achieve their educational, career, financial, and personal goals.

Our work is centered in Oakland’s vibrant Fruitvale neighborhood, with programs and services extending throughout East Oakland, West Oakland, and the Monument Corridor in Concord.

“I arrived in Oakland from Mexico almost 50 years ago. Working at The Unity Council has been a blessing. I started as a volunteer at Clinica de la Raza, where I learned about health education. Later, I joined The Fruitvale Community Collaborative as a community organizer, forming groups to address local issues. Moving through various programs at TUC, like the Business Improvement District, I gained valuable experience working with merchants and advocating for sidewalk regulations. What I love most about The Unity Council is its diverse programs that support community growth. I’ve met wonderful colleagues who have created impactful programs.
