Last month, six participants of the Youth Leadership Program (YLP) traveled to Washington, DC for the UnidosUS Change Makers Summit. Every year, the two-day Summit brings together aspiring activists and community leaders who are committed to advocating for Latinos and low-income communities. Our youth learned and practiced advocacy skills and visited Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress.
Martin Pablo, one of the YLP participants, was thrilled to have been able to attend the conference and meet some of his favorite representatives, he said, “I learned that even though we might not have the perfect president, we still got people in the house fighting for us and being the voice of the people. It was a pleasure meeting Congresswoman Barabara Lee! It felt good to meet the people who represent The Town.”
