Update on the Proposed Development at 2610 International Blvd.

The Unity Council is proposing to develop a new affordable housing project with ground floor childcare space at 2610 International Blvd. The proposed project is located at the parking lot on International Boulevard bounded by E 15th Street in the Fruitvale neighborhood of East Oakland.

The proposed design and development plan includes approximately 105 units of affordable housing. The ground floor childcare will be occupied by a The Unity Council’s Early Head Start preschool program.

Currently, The Unity Council Real Estate Development team is working with David Baker Architects and The Unity Council’s Children & Family Services Department to create the design concept and apply for City entitlements.

What is affordable housing?

Most people call housing “affordable” when they don’t have to choose between paying rent and buying groceries, when they don’t have to live in crowded or unhealthy conditions, and when they can afford a home that provides a sense of security and community.

Policymakers and advocates call housing “affordable” when a household pays no more than 30% of its total income for housing costs (rent or mortgage payment, insurance, taxes, and utilities).

Who will live here?

The homes at 2610 International will be affordable to families and individuals earning between 30% and 120% of area median income. For example, in Alameda County, this means a household’s income could range from $46,700 to $186,850 for a household of four in 2024.
