On Wednesday, May 21st, The Unity Council was honored to be recognized by Assemblymember Mia Bonta as the District 18 California Nonprofit of the Year at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
This recognition celebrates the essential role nonprofits play in strengthening communities—especially in times of uncertainty. From providing early childhood education and workforce development to affordable housing and senior services, The Unity Council continues to be a trusted partner in creating opportunity, stability, and belonging for the people of East Oakland.
We are deeply grateful to CalNonprofits and the California State Assembly and Senate Select Committees on the Nonprofit Sector for uplifting the critical work being done by organizations across the state. And a heartfelt thank you to Assemblymember Mia Bonta for standing with us and the Fruitvale community.
This award is a reflection of the collective effort of our staff, partners, and supporters—each playing a vital role in helping us stay Rooted and Resilient. ¡Aquí Estamos, y No Nos Vamos!
