In response to the recent shootings at the Fruitvale Transit Village, The Unity Council, in partnership with Councilmember Noel Gallo, hosted an urgent Public Safety Summit to address the growing concerns of violence in the Fruitvale community.
The summit provided an important platform for community members to voice their concerns and engage in a meaningful dialogue on public safety. The key objectives of the summit were to:
- Address the impact of violence on our communities.
- Understand the current response to violent incidents.
- Call for stronger coordination between government agencies to combat violent crime.
Attendees included Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, representatives from the City of Oakland Department of Violence Prevention (DVP), Oakland Police Department (OPD), BART Police, and other local leaders who joined together to explore solutions.
Community members from the Fruitvale neighborhood were actively involved, sharing their experiences and holding local officials accountable. Their participation highlighted the importance of community involvement in shaping a safer, stronger future for Fruitvale.
