Reflecting & Rejoicing Celebrating 60 Years of Impact »

Concord, CA – September 27th, 2024 – The Unity Council is thrilled to announce that the Office of Head Start has awarded a competitive grant totaling $4.2 million per year. This funding will enable the organization to serve an additional 220 low-income children, including 88 Head Start Preschool children and 132 Early Head Start infants and toddlers, along with their families.

In partnership with the YWCA of Contra Costa County, The Unity Council will provide childcare services at centers located in Richmond and Oakley. Additionally, The Unity Council will establish two new centers: one in North Richmond to serve both Head Start and Early Head Start programs, and another in Pittsburg focused on Early Head Start families. The organization will also expand its home-based services into Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, and the communities of Richmond and San Pablo

“Celebrating 60 years of The Unity Council and 11 years in Concord, we are excited to expand our Head Start services to communities like Richmond, Pittsburg, and Oakley,” said Chris Iglesias, Chief Executive Officer of The Unity Council. “This grant allows us to continue our mission of serving those who need it most in underserved communities. We are grateful to the Office of Head Start for their support and look forward to reaching even more families across Contra Costa County.”
