We are pleased to thank Southwest for their support to The Unity Council. Southwest’s generous support allows our staff to attend trainings and conferences throughout the year to better serve Oakland families. As well as helping to fundraise for the Latino Men & Boys program.
Last month, Southwest’s support allowed The Unity Council’s Children and Family Services staff to attend the Annual California Head Start Association Policy and Leadership Conference. At this conference, our staff learned about recent Federal and State news to be better informed about the budget and policy changes that impact our programs. The knowledge our staff gained from this conference will benefit the 900 families served by our Head Start & Early Head Start programs.
Southwest’s support will also allow our Executive Staff to attend the NeighborWorks America Training Institute, a five-day mobile university held three times each year in major cities throughout the United States. Some of the topics of the NeighborWorks America Training Institute include affordable housing development, financial capability, housing education and counseling, and nonprofit management and leadership. The knowledge our staff gained at the conference will directly benefit the development of our latest affordable housing project, Casa Arabella, and the 2,000 individuals that receive services through our Fruitvale Neighborhood Career Center.
