Five years ago, we secured a loan to complete some major capital improvements to the Community Resources Center, our headquarters in 1900 Fruitvale. The improvements included repairing the elevator, the HVAC, and replacing the roof. Last year, our development team secured a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Oakland to renovate our Career Center to meet the needs of our workforce development and youth programs.
With the removal of a few key walls, the center will have 1/3 more capacity to serve more clients. The renovation will create more office space to meet individually with clients, including drop-in spaces exclusively for youth services, and the computer lab will be upgraded to include more work stations and equipment. Overall, the renovation will also make the space more useful and inviting to the thousands of job-seeking visitors who come each year.
