The Unity Council CEO Chris Iglesias Joins California Governor Gavin Newsom to Address Public Safety Challenges in Oakland

January 17, 2024

Oakland, CA – January 18, 2024

The Unity Council’s CEO, Chris Iglesias, had the honor of meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom to discuss the pressing public safety challenges faced by Oaklanders. This important conversation also highlighted community-sourced solutions that aim to address these obstacles and bring meaningful change to the neighborhoods that need it most.

The meeting served as a vital platform for representatives to voice concerns and propose solutions on behalf of Oakland’s diverse communities. The Unity Council is committed to advocating for resources and strategies that prioritize equity and uplift those who have been disproportionately affected by these challenges.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to represent Oakland and ensure that the voices of our community are heard at the highest levels of leadership,” said Chris Iglesias, CEO of The Unity Council.

Collaboration and Leadership

The Unity Council extends its gratitude to Governor Gavin Newsom and his administration for facilitating this critical dialogue and providing a space to explore actionable solutions.

Additionally, The Unity Council applauds the leadership of Selena Wilson, CEO of the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC), and Barbara Leslie, CEO of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce, for their contributions to the conversation. Their insights and dedication brought much-needed perspectives to the discussion, reinforcing the collective commitment to Oakland’s future.

Moving Forward

The Unity Council remains steadfast in its mission to promote equity and improve the quality of life in Oakland. By working collaboratively with local and state leaders, community organizations, and residents, we aim to create a safer, more resilient Oakland for all.
