Every day, community-based organizations (CBOs) serve as the backbone of Oakland, providing life-changing services to our most vulnerable residents. From violence prevention and childcare to housing assistance, job training, and food programs for seniors, these organizations are essential to the well-being of our community.
However, their ability to serve is now in jeopardy. City Hall’s sudden budget cuts and failure to pay for services already provided are stripping away critical resources from the people who need them most. These cuts don’t just reduce programs—they take away vital support. Families may struggle to find housing assistance, seniors could lose access to meal programs, children may go without care, and young people will have fewer opportunities to thrive.
The city has prioritized finding $8 million to keep fire stations open, yet there has been no urgency to secure funding for the very organizations that prevent crises before they escalate. Without proper funding, these vital services will disappear, leaving Oakland’s most vulnerable residents without the support they depend on.
We cannot stand by while Oakland’s safety net is dismantled. It’s time to demand action.
Call your councilmember today and urge them to find the funds to support the community-based organizations that uplift and protect our city every day. Together, we can ensure these essential services remain available to those who need them most.
