The Unity Council recently celebrated six decades of transformative work in the Oakland community, and the energy at Fruitvale Village was nothing short of electric! The event brought together friends, partners, and supporters for a memorable day filled with celebration and reflection.
The festivities included a fun-filled raffle, delicious food and drinks, lively dancing, and an exclusive guided tour of Juntos Fruitvale, our newly opened space for creativity and expression. Juntos Fruitvale represents the next chapter in our mission to empower the community and foster cultural expression.
This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the vision of our founder, Arabella Martinez, whose dedication and leadership laid the foundation for what The Unity Council has become today. We also extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible partners and supporters who have stood by us throughout this journey.
The event featured Christina Rendón as our dynamic emcee and a powerful keynote address by the legendary Julian Castro, who inspired everyone with his words about progress and resilience.
Over the past 60 years, The Unity Council has not just transformed Fruitvale; we’ve built a lasting legacy of equity, inclusion, and opportunity. This celebration was a testament to what we’ve achieved together—and a look forward to all the work that lies ahead.
Here’s to many more years of unity, progress, and making a difference!
