The Unity Council was honored to welcome Congresswoman Lateefah Simon to Fruitvale for a day centered on connection, listening, and community power.
The visit began with a BART ride into the Fruitvale Transit Village, followed by conversations with small businesses, residents, and community leaders. At Casa Sueños, Congresswoman Simon met with residents and our Residential Services team to hear firsthand how affordable housing and comprehensive support services are creating lasting change.
The day also included a visit to CURYJ’s offices and a tour of the Fruitvale Business Corridor, where local entrepreneurs shared the challenges and triumphs of keeping their businesses open and their community thriving.
From Oakland to Congress, Lateefah Simon’s journey is a powerful reminder that strong communities shape strong leaders. We are grateful for her commitment to listening, learning, and leading alongside us.
