On Saturday, May 2nd The Unity Council and Peralta Service Corporation worked with Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilmember Noel Gallo to bring the Census Caravan to Fruitvale! The Mercury News captured the day in pictures, which you can see here (paywall). The Census Caravan of decorated cars called out to folks safely sheltering at home to remind them to take the 2020 Census. The 2020 Census is critical to ensuring that communities in East Oakland count. The Census helps to apportion representation in our federal government, federal dollars for roads, schools, healthcare, and other social services, and is an important source of data about our community.
