Summer Summit

The Unity Council’s Latino Men & Boys, Oakland Youth Engaged, and STEP are hosting the 2019 Summer Summit; a career and college exploration program for youth and young adults, ages 16 to 24. We offer two different tracks depending on your age.

For Youth Ages 16 to 24 – Earn Up to $1,500!

Complete our job readiness training to gain the skills to help you find and keep a job. The training will consist of resume writing, work readiness, work etiquette, financial literacy, developing communication skills, and other topics that will help you with your career and education goals. After completing the training, you will be placed in a paid work experience where you will gain real hands-on work experience working alongside experienced professionals, develop a network of references, and create a competitive resume.

You will earn $200 for completing the training and then get placed on a paid work experience earning $13.23 an hour for 100 hours.

Placement Sites include Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, City of Oakland Departments, The Unity Council, East Bay Regional Parks District, and local organizations and businesses.

Participate in a 2-week Career and College exploration program where you attend workshops to teach you about communication skills, resume writing, financial planning, work readiness, college exploration and the application process, and other topics.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in field trips to Bay Area colleges and companies.

Eligibility:

  • Oakland resident
  • Between the ages 16-24
  • No GPA requirement
  • All youth are encouraged to apply, regardless of documentation status
