Three head-start children playing

California School Age Families Education (Cal-SAFE) is a program for pregnant and parenting teen moms. Parents in Cal-SAFE attend Fruitvale Academy while their child is cared for in a nurturing, play-based learning environment. This program is operated in partnership with the Alameda County Office of Education.

While enrolled in Cal-SAFE, pregnant and parenting teens work with a Family Advocate to take advantage of resources that can help their family achieve long-term financial and educational success. Parents take classes at Fruitvale Academy, co-located with the child care center, which allows moms to visit frequently for feeding times and to check up on their child.

Parents receive information and training on nutrition, positive parenting, career and financial coaching, and health resources related to pregnancy, prenatal care, and infancy.
