Over the next few days, households across the Bay Area will receive an envelope postmarked from Jeffersonville, Indiana, with an ID code and instructions from the Census Bureau to get counted in the 2020 Census.

There is currently a limited impact of COVID-19 to actual census operations.  Should the public health risk increase, the US Census Bureau will enact measures they have prepared as noted in their recent statement here.

  • Most people will have the opportunity to be counted by phone (844-330-2020) or online (my2020census.gov) on their own and in their own homes.
  • Door-to-door follow-up by Census Takers will not take place until after May 13, and all should continue to encourage community members to self-respond online or by phone through the end of July.
  • There are a variety of enumeration methods for group quarter (GQ), service-based (SB), and targeted non-shelter outdoor locations (TNSOL) and the Census Bureau will adapt to changes in local facility operations as needed.
